great site – i live in NJ and looking at Timbertech.

some of the installers are pushing me away from the twinfinish and suggesting the XLM. Is the twin finish old technology?

Have you done any spiral stairs outside?

    • Robert,

The simple answer to your first question is yes, the TiberTech TwinFinish plank is old technology. Let me explain. Relative to the XLM plank, the TwinFinish is “old” technology. This also means that it is very well proven. The TwinFinish Plank is what I refer to as a third generation composite, meaning, throughout the TimberTech lifecycle, there have been a few periods of product enhancement that make the product what it is today. And it is a very good composite plank; what it lacks in trend-setting style and color, it makes up for in technology, features, and performance. Like I said, it is a proven leader in the mid-range manufactured decking market. You cannot go wrong with choosing this plank.

Regarding the XLM, in relation to the TwinFinish, we’re comparing an S-Class Benz to an E-Class. Both great, but one is clearly a cut above. The XLM is the best our industry has to offer when all is considered. Again, you can not go wrong with the XLM plank.

In my experience, your decision is going to come down to a cost-value analysis between the two. Both will perform, but which do you like the look of more? The XLM plank is more resistant to stains and scratches, is this important to you? On what basis are your local contractors selling you?

Regarding spiral stairs, we’ve installed both manufactured and custom fabricated iron and aluminum spiral stairs. There is a lot out there, and I’d be happy to answer any specific questions you have regarding spiral stairs.

      Brian
